Jonathan Mitchell | Feature Show
We’re so excited to bring you a collection of work by Scottish painter Jonathan Mitchell, his inspiration has been derived primarily from rural locations near to his Angus home, and throughout Scotland. More recently, extended trips to France and to Madeira have resulted in him forging an equally intimate relationship with these areas.
Within this feature exhibition you’ll find delicate portrayals of scenes close to home in Arbroath from the harbour to the captivating cliffs, even the hustle of Dundee’s Perth Road, as well as further a field on the streets of Carcassonne, France. In the artists true style you’ll find a balance between the lush green landscape of Scotland as well as the often hidden beauty of European architecture.
Primarily working in oils, his painting is firmly within the Northern European tradition; both detailed and atmospheric. Jonathan says of his work;
“I am very much a realist artist. My work is a record of things and places as I have found them. However, my paintings aim at communicating to the viewer not just the physical appearance of a particular place, but also what it felt like to be there”.
