James McIntosh Patrick was born in Dundee in 1907, and studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1924 – 27. His works are included within many municipal, corporate and private collections throughout the World, including The Tate Gallery and the Royal Family.

In 1997, a series of major retrospective exhibitions were held in Scotland and London to celebrate the work of this remarkable artist, regarded by many as the finest British Landscape painter of the 20th century.
