Born 1924 (d. 2015), Joseph Maxwell studied at John Cass Collage, London (1946-7) and Edinburgh College of Art (1947-50). Elected RSW 1960, RGI 1965, Diploma Bilan de l’Art Contemporain 1978. His work is in many important collections including; the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art (Edinburgh), the British Arts Council (London), the Scottish Arts Council (Edinburgh), the Glasgow Art Gallery, the Paisley Art Gallery, Kahn Gallery (New York) and Ecole Francaise International (Paris).
