Maralyn Reed-Wood
When asked why she produces figures rather than the obvious domestic ware Maralyn always points to our early Ancestors. Having discovered the Properties of fired clay, man was quick to apply it to body adornments and Talismans. Some early pottery sites made small figures and beads to the exclusion of all else.
Maralyn identifies with this early work and has made figures successfully for 25 years. Her work was selected for the Poisson d’Or in Switzerland (a sort of porcelain Olympics – she was the British entry) and she has shown at the Scottish Gallery in International Porcelain.
Her inspiration comes from her immediate environment of sea, shore and landscape. Maralyn works from her studio in Angus where she makes a wide range of jewellery and figures.
