Nicola McBride

Nicola graduated from Grays School of Art in 1997 and has exhibited a range of work in galleries across the UK and France. She also participated in art fairs in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London and is now the head of the art department at Perth High School.

Originally from Dundee, Nicola now works from her studio in Perth and uses biro pens to develop artworks of iconic images. Her subject matter changes frequently but mostly focuses objects which surround her, sparked by her childhood.

Nicola experiments using a range of surfaces, from antique ordnance maps to old recycled envelops and uses a mix of BIC crystal original ballpoint pens to carefully layer the colour and tones in my subject matter, aiming to achieve a hyper realistic style.

‘I have used biro pens to develop this collection of iconic images based on my birthplace. Using a meticulous approach to drawing, I have attempted to create artwork which is inspired by the stories told by my Dundonian Grandmother and her ‘Cooper’ family legacy.’
