Born in 1972, Dundee, John lives in rural Perthshire, Scotland and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (1989-93).
His dynamic landscapes perfectly characterise the glorious isolation of many of his favoured Scottish locations. His technique marries traditional and contemporary styles, contrasting finely detailed observation against simplified backdrops to capture the stillness and mood of his subjects.
“I greatly admire the work of Andrew Wyeth the American Realist- particularly his ability to recreate the raw and honest feeling of the outdoors. At the end of the day though, it is the subjects themselves that inspire me, and I will happily spend days searching the landscape and coastline looking for subjects which capture my imagination”.
