Ellis O'Connor

Ellis O’Connor is a contemporary landscape artist from Scotland working in the field of painting and drawing.

The dynamic energy to be seen in the paintings are Ellis’ response to observed changes in the landscape;

“the movement and rhythms of the sea and the land … the merging of sea with air, advancing rain and mist, ever changing light – elements that seem to be about something intangible.”

In order to immerse herself in the environment, Ellis makes much of the artwork on site where extreme weather and the elements find their way into the pieces.
She creates large-scale, expressive, and abstract oil paintings that seek to capture the essence of these moments—where the boundaries between the self and the surrounding landscape blur, and a deeper connection to the natural world emerges. In her practice, the canvas becomes a space for exploration and release, where bold, sweeping gestures and rich, textured layers of paint convey the intensity and complexity of these encounters.

Ellis’ work is exhibited in galleries all across Scotland.
