James McIntosh Patrick was born on Dundee in 1907, and studied at Glasgow School of Art. Works by McIntosh Patrick are included within many municipal collections throughout the world, including The Tate Gallery and members of the Royal Family.

In 1997, a series of major retrospective exhibitions were held around the UK to celebrate the work of this remarkable artist, regarded by many as the finest British Landscape painter of the 20th century.
